Backlinks

Earning links from sites the engines already trust, and what not to do.

Answer engines lean heavily on sources that other sources reference. A perfect article on a site nothing links to is a perfect article nothing quotes.

What Citeca does here#

  • Finds realistic targets — sites in or adjacent to your category that link out to businesses like yours.
  • Writes the outreach — a specific pitch referencing something real, not a template.
  • Tracks every link — where it points, whether it is still live, and whether it passes authority.
  • Flags nofollow — with what to do about it.

Note

Some items need you to press send, from your own address. A pitch to an editor lands very differently coming from the founder than from a tool, so Citeca writes it and leaves the sending to you.

What we will not do#

  • Buy links. Against Google’s guidelines and detectable at scale.
  • Private blog networks. They get deindexed, and take the sites linked from them down with them.
  • Mass directory spam. Worthless at best, a negative signal at worst.
  • Comment and forum link drops. Ignored by engines, and it damages the brand doing it.

Heads up

Anyone selling you a hundred backlinks for a flat fee is selling a liability. Cleaning up a toxic profile costs far more than the links did.

A nofollow link tells engines not to pass authority. It still has value — real traffic, brand visibility, and something for an engine to read — but it does not build authority. If a site will change it, the troubleshooting page has the wording that usually works.
